Alex is out on reconnaissance, his duties as Seeker take him into the harsh, unforgiving, hellscape that is the city. The ravaged metropolis expands before him, mile after mile of wreck and ruin. The abandoned monolithic structures line the cracked, broken roadways and in the darkness and shadow lurks the ever-present danger of the savage, vicious and unnatural.

As the reach of man fails, so does his spirit and the former boundless will that once emboldened him now withers. But humanity has one saving grace, the Valve. The sweet release and the cool brass, that protects us from the damaging air, the radiation, and the hopelessness. One quarter turn, and man’s spirit finds its will, its vigour, and its courage. It is this that we cling too, it is this which Alex is coming to rely on. And when amongst the desolation of that place, in the growing light he sees something that should not be, a boy. In the harshness and the catastrophe, a boy who should not be alive, a boy without the valve.
